This weeks #MusicMonday we decided to switch things up a bit and focus on Australia’s premier blues and roots festival, Byron Bay Bluesfest. The Kitten Jam crew attended the opening night of Bluesfest on Thursday night, getting a much needed dose of jazz, funk, soul, hip hop with Hiatus Kaiyote, Kamasi Washington, D’angelo and Kendrick Lamar. The event wasn’t without it’s mishaps, with security missing the point of their purpose in the lead up to Kendrick Lamar’s headline slot. However, the music and overall vibe of Bluesfest greatly overshadowed any negative experiences. Taking a big step forward by pushing the festival into a fresh, new direction — which by the way is still heavily rooted in blues and soul — the opening night highlighted the present and future of soul music with the list of stellar acts that performed.
With the buzz of the opening night still being felt, we at Kitten Jam decided to put together a #MusicMonday playlist inspired by Bluesfest 2016. This new playlist features music from D’angelo, Allen Stone, Mojo Juju, The Wailers, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks and more. Bluefest 2016 concludes today in Byron Bay with performances from artists including The Blind Boys Of Alabama, Joe Bonamassa and Allen Stone.
